JAXB 2.0 on JavaONE 2005

Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) 2.0: XML Data Binding for the Java Platform: TS-3636, 2005 – Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) Version 2.0 makes it easy to use XML in programs. Classes are generated from an XML Schema that hide the details of XML parsing and formatting. JAXB 2.0 maps XML data into Java objects that allow manipulation of XML data at a conceptual level natural and easy for a Java programmer. In conjunction with Java API for XML-based RPC (JAX-RPC) 2.0, JAXB 2.0 enables the development and deployment of the next generation of web services. JAXB 2.0 builds upon JAXB 1.0 and contains many new features. This session provides an overview of new features in JAXB 2.0. The new features address several important areas for web services, including complete support for XML Schema standard, Java technology to XML binding, schema evolution, and partial mapping of large XML documents. New ease-of-use features make programming significantly simpler.

Validator from Jakarta

A common issue when receiving data either electronically or from user input is verifying the integrity of the data. This work is repetitive and becomes even more complicated when different sets of validation rules need to be applied to the same set of data based on locale. Error messages may also vary by locale.
Commons Validator addresses some of these issues to speed development and maintenance of validation rules.

JavaONE 2005 on Shale

Shale: The Next Struts?
Agenda:
What is Shale?
Validation
Spring and Tiles integration
Tapestry-like views
Remoting
Web flow

Session Details:
Want to get in early on the next big thing in enterprise Java technology? Then come to this session and ramp up on the successor to Struts. Struts is the most popular Java technology-based web application framework today, but that’s changing. There’s a newcomer on the block, a leaner, meaner, better-designed framework loosely based on Struts that’s poised to dethrone Struts as the reigning king of Java technology-based web application frameworks. That framework, of course, is JavaServer Faces. So, what does the future hold for Struts? For Struts 2.0, Craig McClanahan, the father of Struts and the co-spec lead for JavaServer Faces technology 1.0, has proposed an entirely new framework built on JavaServer Faces technology. That framework, codenamed Shale, is a clean break from Struts; none of the codebase from Struts 1.2 is in Shale. As of this writing, Shale is a Struts subproject. This session is a face-paced introduction to Shale. You’ll understand the relationship between Struts, JavaServer Faces technology, and Shale, and you’ll see how Shale enhances your applications based on JavaServer Faces technology. Along the way, we see some real code: a Shale implementation of a wizard that creates a user in a database. David Geary, an active proponent of Shale, teaches this session. Geary was the second Struts committer and the implementer of the Struts Template library. He also was a member of the JavaServer Faces technology Expert Group for release 1.0 and is co-author of the best-selling book Core JSF.

Web Server Scanner

Nikto is an Open Source (GPL) web server scanner which performs comprehensive tests against web servers for multiple items, including over 3200 potentially dangerous files/CGIs, versions on over 625 servers, and version specific problems on over 230 servers. Scan items and plugins are frequently updated and can be automatically updated (if desired).
Nikto is not designed as an overly stealthy tool. It will test a web server in the shortest timespan possible, and it’s fairly obvious in log files. However, there is support for LibWhisker’s anti-IDS methods in case you want to give it a try (or test your IDS system)

Reuse in JavaServer Faces (JavaOne)

Extreme Reuse in JavaServer Faces: TS-7853, 2005:
Developers working with JavaServer Faces technology today have a wide and sometimes bewildering array of options for building pages from reusable pieces. Some of the established reuse technologies may not be suitable for a component-based development environment. Others may need to be enhanced for best effect. This session covers many of these options, discussing the pros and cons of how each work with JavaServer Faces technology, including code samples. You’ll leave this session knowing how to choose among these options. Technologies discussed include Tiles, SiteMesh, JavaServer Pages 2.0 tag files, JavaServer Faces Renderers, ADF Faces, and more.
